• Dinghy Racing

  Whether you’re a seasoned dinghy racer or looking to try racing for the first time, we have a place for you. We field multiple competitive teams, and whilst space is limited, our goal is to get as many members involved as possible – opening up high0lvevl racing opportunities to sailors of all backgrounds and skill levels.

  • Where we train: We hold on the water training sessions twice a week at Loch Ore
  • Our Fleet: We train and compete in Fireflies, which is the Standard for university team racing in the UK.
  • Off the Water: To sharpen our strategy, we host weekly tactics sessions alongside our on water training.
  • How to join: We hold trials at the very start of the academic year to select

• Yachting

  If dinghy sailing isn’t for you then we still offer plenty of other opportunities to get you out on the water. Whether you’re a beginner wanting to learn the ropes or an experienced sailor, we have something for everyone.

  • Where we sale from: Our Yacht program is based at Port Edgar.
  • Our Fleet: We train and compete on boats offered to use through our membership at the Port Edgar Yacht Club.
  • Training & Racing: We run a number of practices and also compete in several races throughout the year.
  • Qualification & Courses: Beyond racing, we provide members with the opportunity to earn official qualifications, making courses like the RYA Day Skipper available throughout the year.

• Annual Yacht Trips

  Our annual yacht trips are a highlight of the university year. They offer the ultimate opportunity to escape the library, cruise around Scotland or the Mediterranean, and make lifelong friends. We host two major trips every year.

  • Summer Sail Week: Our annual trip to the Mediterranean where we rent charter several yachts and head out for a week of incredible sailing, island-hopping, and fun activities. For the past two years we have headed to Greece.
  • West Coast Cruise: This is a brilliant getaway usually at the start of Semester 1 offering everyone a great opportunity to relax before the semester reaches full swing. Takes place on the west coast of Scotland.

  The Yacht Trip is a great chance to get out on the water as they open to everyone, even if you haven’t sailed before. Each yacht is helmed by an experienced skipped so you can choose to learn the ropes or just sit back, relax, and enjoy the views.

• Development Sailing

  Our Development Sailing program is a great way for students of all levels to get involved in the club. If you have never sailed before or are looking to get out on the water recreationally then this program is for you. We focus on learning at your own pace building confidence and having an amazing time with a fantastic group of people.

  • When we sail: We run regular training sessions on Sundays throughout the academic year.

  No Kit? No Problem!

  • What we provide: All necessary safety equipment, buoyancy aids, and other basic kit.
  • What you need to bring: Just some warm layers and clothes that you don’t mind getting a bit wet!

  Because we want to keep group sizes small and safe, we organise session sign-ups that will be made available throughout the year. Our development sessions are run by our welcoming team of student volunteers and overseen by our Development Officer. If you have any questions, then feel free to reach out. • How to get involved

  Whether you are new to the sport or an experienced sailor, already attend the University or if you are thinking about attending, please get in touch to register your interest and find out more about our club.

  The University hosts a Sports Fayre at the beginning of each academic year during Orientation Week, giving prospective members the opportunity to talk to club members and sign up to ‘Give It A Go’ sessions.
